USCIS Honors Public Servants During Public Service Recognition Week

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) celebrated Public Service Recognition Week from May 7 to May 13, 2023. This weeklong celebration acknowledges the hard work and dedication of public servants across the country, including those who work tirelessly at USCIS to process immigration applications and petitions.

USCIS is an agency under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that oversees lawful immigration to the United States. The agency plays a vital role in promoting national security and ensuring the integrity of the country’s immigration system. USCIS employs over 18,000 government employees and contractors who work in more than 250 offices around the world.

During Public Service Recognition Week, USCIS recognized the outstanding contributions of its employees. The agency highlighted the exceptional work of its staff, who have been instrumental in processing immigration applications and petitions, despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The agency also recognized its employees for their dedication to public service, commitment to excellence, and tireless efforts to serve the American people.

USCIS Director Ur M. Jaddou expressed her gratitude to the agency’s employees, saying, “The work USCIS employees perform each day makes it possible for so many immigrants to realize their dream of calling America home, while enriching our nation as a whole,” and “As an agency, we continue to improve our systems in order to provide the best possible experience to those we serve. To that end, last year we set out to hire more personnel, and I am delighted that USCIS welcomed nearly 3,000 new employees to our agency in 2022, and more than 4,000 USCIS employees have grown into new positions within the agency.”

As part of the celebration, USCIS also shared stories of employees who have gone above and beyond in their work. These stories showcased the agency’s commitment to providing excellent customer service, promoting diversity and inclusion, and upholding the country’s immigration laws.

In addition, USCIS hosted virtual events and activities to celebrate Public Service Recognition Week. These included panel discussions on immigration-related topics, career development webinars, and social media campaigns.
